Two teens bravely get their noses pierced

My daughter, Lola, and her BFF, Rilyn, turned 16 this year. To mark the milestone, they both wanted to get their noses pierced. My knee-jerk response was, hell no. But then after I thought about it a minute or two, I was like, hm. You know…. that could be a really cool right of passage. Lola is an amazing, creative young women, and I’ve always encouraged her to express herself, I shall not start to stifle her now. I SHALL NOT! Neither Lola or Rilyn would be getting their license for another year, and they’d been through a lot the past year, what with not being able to attend their freshman year of school and Lorde not releasing any new music. So I gave my kidlet the thumbs up, and Rilyn’s mama did the same.

For me, there was only one person with whom I’d trust to give my precious baby’s perfect schnoz and third hole. This is not to say there aren’t other great piercers in the Jacksonville area, but I’d gotten to know JON THE PIERCER (here may or may not be reference to him in the Bible) over the years from my bellybutton piercing and other friends’ piercing tag-a-longs. His real name is Jon Salzer and I’d always appreciated his professionalism and I just enjoy his vibe, man. He’s the kind of person who you can tell just really enjoys his work, which is cool because I don’t even like clipping my own toe nails (grrrrrross) so I can’t imagine putting a needle through other peoples’ body parts.

Jon and his wife, Georgie, opened a beautiful place called Pure Imagination Arts in Atlantic Beach, Florida, several years ago, so they were nice and close. Pure Imagination Arts originally also offered weekly community mediation (which I always meant to get to, but never did…gaahhhhh the stress of missing out on mediating!!!!) …. they’ve currently suspended that. Besides piercing, the space is a gallery that features arts and literature from local artists and writers. Pretty cool place run by locals. Yah? Yah.

So, annnnyway, Lola and Rilyn got their noses pieced in July and they did so great. The only reason I was able to watch it all go down was the fact that I was documenting it. Otherwise, I’d’ve been in the corner with my shirt pulled up over my eyes. The piercings look amazing and healed amazing and I’m proud of both of these girls for being brave and lovely human beings. Please enjoy the mini documentary (press play up above ^^^), and if you’d like a mini documentary for your business, please let me know!
