6 men and the morning

The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.
~ Helen Keller

These photos were all made within a half hour of the sunrise in Atlantic Beach, Florida. They highlight the start of a day for six men. It seems not every man rolls out of bed at 7, kisses the wife good morning, puts on coffee, shoos the dog out, makes two eggs with side of white bread toast, and takes a satisfying dookie. Ahhhh …. Yes, learning this shocked me, too.

I like to think about the moment of each photo and what led to that moment. How did the first man come to choose that bench to sleep on? Why is the second man in the chair not at work? Is he on vacation? Did he call in sick? Will he get in trouble with someone if they see this photo? Where did he get that cheery chair? What time did those surfers get up to be done surfing already… or are they done? Have they been friends long? The man crossing the dunes with his dog … where do they live? Has the dog gone #2 yet? The man working … does he enjoy his job? Will he get itchy from the fiberglass in the insulation? Is that insulation? I don’t know … I’m sure he knows what he’s doing.

I don’t have any questions about what happens after I make the photo. I don’t even think about that. hm. Wonder what that’s about? It’s all about what leads up to the moment in front of me.

Enjoy 6 men and the morning. Let me know what questions YOU have in the comments! :)
